Welcome to being a home owner.

Monday was going to be a great day. I planned to do a couple loads of laundry clean up the house, maybe get in the shower by the time Devin gets home. You know one of those great bum around the house days. So I put my laundry in first thing to get a head start. Go about doing other things. Go down to put the load in the dryer... Squish Squish........ umm....

Yes that was the sound as I stepped on to my CARPET in the basement. My heart stops, sure enough the drain that is supposed to DRAIN was so completely backed up I almost started to cry/ vomit at the disgusting water sitting there mocking me.

I call Devin to tell him that we have a flood, then I call my mom since she just recently had one so she would have  the trusty roader rooter number. I get that all set up. Call Aisha to borrow their shop vac to try and salvage our carpet. Go down and bail up the nasty back up water. Smartly go up stairs to clean the toilet and use it. Oops all the water I just bailed right back up. So I can't use any water great. couple hours later I'm about to have a bladder infection roader rooter comes. Tells me that our beautiful tree roots are growing into the pipes and that's what is causing such distress.

So all day the words of  the relator that was selling our house rang through my head. "Welcome to being a home owner. " Because part of the closing they were going to replace the water heater. It was all set up to be done the day we were closing. Didn't happen, we move in on a Saturday no hot water Sunday no hot water Monday Yeah he is to show up between 9am-midnight. Doesn't show up. The relator comes by to get her sign and give us a key, so I tell her that lame contractor hasn't shown up. she turns to me, being 6 months pregnant had to basically sponge bath myself all weekend  with water that I boiled, and says "welcome to being a home owner" I could have smacked her.

Now it's makes for great memories, that hopefully our first flood will turn into once it's all over. Thanks again Aishi and brad for the fans and shop vac.  Oh and did I mention that I have this incredible sinus infection that was just throbbing all day! ( just had to add a little more drama to the story. ) Good thing I started a blog so I could vent about this!!!!!

Okay, I can't live with my hair like this for another two months. The brown streaks didn't take in some places so now I have spots and the brown is too brown and the streaks are too big. How can I fix it without doing more damage to my hair or should I just leave it? I need this ugly brown (which by the way is ash colored) fade faster. I guess it wont matter after I have the kid because I wont have time to do my hair. It's just hair is so important to look good, ya know? I need your expert advice?

Pretty much that sucks. You seem to have handled if well. If it was me I probably would have started bawling and called Jamison telling him our lives were over because the basement flooded. Yeah... I tend to overreact.

Ahhh! I can't believe that! What a horrible day! What are you guys suppose to do about the tree? It really does suck when people say they will show up & don't doesn't it? I'm glad the R.R. guys made it at least.

Flushing can be a great thing or an awful thing. Sorry that happened. I hope everything is in working condition now.

Oh, Em. I feel for you. We have a similar problem with our drain. Originally we thought it was tree roots, but after 2 1/2 floods we found out that our pipe actually goes UP on an incline outside of the house. Gotta love old houses.

I've got some tips for you -- and a way to keep the flood from happening again. I'll fill you in when we do our next hair appointment!
